Hygiene Village Project, a local Non-Governmental Organization is implementing a Sanitation Marketing project whose aim is to see that there is increase access to improved basic sanitation facilities among households and make Mulanje and Zomba districts attain Open Defecation Free Status within a short period of time with support from USAID through Organized Network Services for Everyone (ONSE).
HVP which has been working towards achieving milestones set by the end of each quarter is using different methodologies to meet the targets and among them include involvement of already existing structures such as Community Health Action Groups(CHAG’s), Area and Village Development Committees(ADCs and VDCs) just to mention a few.
As one way of motivating its staff to work according to towards achieving the organizations expectation, HVP conducts staff assessment and performance to measure their performance.
Speaking during the staff meeting which brought together staff members from Zomba, Mulanje and Blantyre that took place at its Mulanje Office, HVP management surprised its employees as for the first time, an announcement was made that the organization had introduced an incentive of rewards under one of organization’s policies on Incentives and rewards, a policy that aims at motivating its staff.
For the first of its kind, Mulanje Based Field Officer, Myson Kumalira has been selected as the best performer for the quarter between April 2019 and June 2019 and went home with a cheque of MK50, 000.00
In his speech, HVP’s Executive Director Roy Khonyongwa applauded the staff for the efforts they are putting in making sure that they achieve the objectives of the project and at the same time uplifting wellbeing of the communities in the two districts.
“Today we are rewarding the best employee, we know we have just started and we promise to keep on doing this time and again either in cash or not. Said Khonyongwa
Khonyongwa added it is the expectation of HVP to see more staff members being rewarded.
And in his comment, the winner Kumalira attributed his success to team work and collaboration amongst staff members and other stakeholders and commended HVP for taking a step in responding to the policy it has in place.
In Mulanje HVP is working in Traditional Authorities of Chikumbu, Mabuka, Mnthiramanja, STAs Sunganimzeru and Tombondiya while in Zomba it is working in TAs Chikowi, Mlumbe, Malemia, STA Nkapita and Mwambo.
